At the scene of 'The Grime'

Findsen, de Casmaker and Houle provide one of the most exceptional examples of physical comedy I’ve ever witnessed. One almost forgets that the actors are surrounded by only a black plywood stage and a couple of pot lights, as the scene they draw with their body movements is full of vivid detail, colour, sound and emotion.

What I found incredible was that though the Old Man’s interactions are based almost entirely on the behaviour of the Captain and Madame, they don’t once acknowledge his existence. It’s a masterpiece of comedic timing.

Although the play wrapped up at the end of May, Theatrophy has an adaptation of Dante’s Inferno in the works, set to open in the fall of 2004. I look forward to their next enchanting stage escapade.
