FACTOR - to save or not to save

The message at this year's North by Northeast (NXNE) music conference in June spoke volumes about government's preference for science and technology rather than arts: the budget for The Foundation to Assist Canadian Talent On Records, mostly known as FACTOR, may not be renewed as of March 31, 2005.

Miss Robertine Barry is a Canadian journalist and publisher who was on the train onroute to St. Louis in 1904 for the World's Fair, when the Canadian Women's Press Club was formed. Nicole Burgers played the part of Robertine Barry
in the 1904 re-enactment, written by Rosaleen Dickson, performed at the National Arts Centre's Le Salon
on June 26, 2004 to commemorate the 100 years for The Canadian Women's Press Club - now called The Media Club.

I must say that when Miggsy Graham called me about the St. Louis World's Fair, I was neck-deep in prose written by our new young journalist at the paper. This new young lady hails from Nova Scotia and wanted some practical experience as a journalist. I have several of these young women under my wing at the moment. It's about time more women wrote for newspapers, this is 1904 for heaven's sake.
