Well, our passions for the craft rose up in all of us, even that
quiet, little one – lovely lady by the name of Grace Denison
I believe. She gave a divine, impromptu speech right in the middle
of the train car about how our female perspective can provide a
rich and more humanistic and heartfelt spin to the news out there.
Everyone could not help but nearly talk over one another being so
swept up in the excitement and wanting to do something about our
predicament as female journalists.
I began to relax at the thought of forming a club since it was agreed
that one of the main purposes of this club would be to learn from
one another and improve ourselves as journalists. After all, I felt
that everyone can be better than she is and so “Excellence”
became part of our mission statement.
Then so it was - we ended up forming the first every Canadian Women’s
Press Club! What a feat! There were those who said we wouldn’t
get there, but not only did we get to St. Louis, we banded together
as a unified force ready to face the world as women journalists
- true to the words they write!
